This may help

I have read some stuff about modifications on other cars (350Z specifically) and came up with this idea. The hot coolant running throught the throttle body:
heats up the intake air (-)
keeps more engine parts hot (-) Catera overheating problems? Hello!!!
warms up the intake air in freezing temperatures (maybe +)
So this may or may not work for all. But here's what I did: bypassed the throttle body. So now the hose does not go coolant tank- throttle body- coolant bridge at the back of the engine. It now goes coolant tank- collant bridge. Throttle body connections capped. Thought this may help keep that baby cool and keep it breathing a little better.
Here's some pictures

Re: This may help

If it's heating up the intake, that means it is also cooling down the coolant. But the overall impact on coolant temps is negligible either way.

However, that should keep the intake from heat soaking as much. For some more gains I would build a box around that air filter to keep out engine bay heat

Re: This may help

ACE hardware sells insulated aluminium tape with foam on it... and my friend insulated his intake pipes from the filter all the way to the throttle bodies on his CV, later he reported a drop in intake temps by close to 6degrees...

Been debating on doing the same thing but it look soooooooooo messy in there after its installed...

Re: This may help

Good idea. I have this particular mod done on my 02 SS. However there is a raging ongoing debate as to whether this is a worthwhile mod or not. Reason being that yes the coolant does heat up your throttle body which inturn would technically heat up the incoming air, BUT how long does the incoming air actually spend in the throttle body? A fraction of a second at best? So yes i agree to doing this because i dont really see the need for it, and actually the only reason that GM did this was for the owners that would be driving in EXTREME cold climates to prevent throttle body icing. So there is your official reason for having it, and the arguements that people have over it on ls1tech
