    Oil Pressure Too High?

Hey guys, I just finished the 3.2 swap into the Catera a couple of days ago and have most of the issues worked out, but I've been noticing what seems like unusually high oil pressure to me. It's running 1 to 1.5 bars below 80psi at cruise and at WOT it pretty much pegs 80psi. What does everyone else's Cats run for oil pressure ... should I be worried about mine being this high?

are you sure all 6 (6.1 to be exact) qts of oil were put in? That weight oil did you use? The only time I've ever had that problem is when i get my cats their first oil changes at the cadillac stealership for their fee inspections and the cadillac specialists think it's a standard 5qt oil change rather than the 6 the cats use....... only other thing that i could imagine might cause this is the wrong oil weight....

    Re: Oil Pressure Too High?

With the engine having sat around for quite some time (I swapped in a used 3.2L), I decided to throw in some Mobil 1 to clean things out and get everything lubricated up properly, and as such chose a lower weight (5W30) to be exact. This should cause the oil pressure to be lower than it otherwise would have been though. However, I did notice today that the oil pressure seems to have come down a bit from where it was (more to normal levels), so who knows ... I swear cars have minds of their own sometimes.

    Re: Oil Pressure Too High?

Well there is a oil pressure valve somewhere in the system that is spring loaded and pops out to let oil back down in the crank case... for whatever reason yours might be sticking or somehting else is causing it to open later... and that can cause major oil leaks at some of the seals due to the extra 20-30 psi... I dont think the Oil pressure gauge is even accurate past 80psi , so you could be seeing levels of around 100 or more... who knows...

Another thing is if the engine had sludge... and plugged up oil channels, kinda like your arteries, the pump is pushing through narrower paths... and thus increasing the oil pressure but if its coming down i hope it settles at a normal level...
BTW how do you like that 3.2L? ... any input?

What sort of problems did you run into while swapping that 3.2 into your cat? Im about to do this swap so im looking into any potential problems. And like what CateraMV6 asked, how do you like it?

btw, the colder it is the "thicker" the oil gets, and the higher the pressure is....
