98 Catrea Sensor Problem...YALL PLEASE HELP!!!

ok my mom has a 98 catera...she has a sensor thats out and needs to be replaced...problem is finding which one it is...my dad said its either one of the 2 an oxygen sensor or an high airflow sensor...what happens which is similar to someones problem on here...it runs just fine and then stops out of nowhere at red lights and stop signs with low idling...this is a biiiggg issue because now its problem is affecting the gas tank and sensor inthe tank...you will think you have gas and the tank is empty...if someone can email us at the email add provided or respond to this thread and let us know what this issue could be this would be greatly appreciated!!!

Lets keep all tech issues on the forum, please!!!

Its called the MAF (mass air flow sensor) high airflow!! Just kidding, but i got a chuckle from that...

This has nothing do with the gas guage, thats seperate...

Our resident catera expert, and moderator, JeffreyG will come by and analyze the situation. Please dont email or PM him, because we want to keep the info on the boards.....

    Well

You have two problems, the fuel level sending unit on the gas tank would give you intermittent or false readings of fuel level. Have that replaced.

It sounds like you may have a problem with the idle air control valve, you can try to clean out the IAC and heres a tutorial on it:

Is the Check engine light on? If so, go to an Autozone and get the codes scanned for free.

Then the right move is to replace the oxygen sensors , or whatever the scanner picked up.
