Talking GTO Calipers with C5 Brake Pads. OMEGA/CATERA

Remove this ad
Finally got around to throwing some C5 pads and seeing what the fuzz was all about and found myself quite pleasantly surprised...

THe C5 pads are way bigger then the GTO ones but on the same back frame! So its safe to upgrade as long as you have the rattle clips in place otherwise I think they will make noise.

The brake pedal is more touchy now, and I experienced similar improvements as when I got the larger calipers. The 04 GTO guys have been doing this for a while now as an improvement to their stock systems...

Here is the pad difference!

Here they are on the bracket side by side...

And here is what the larger pad does to the rotor... wider swept area... I can tell because I had my rotors painted and the paint was rubbed off from the new pads...

Seems like it sweeps more maybe another 15% on top of the GTO pad...

No, no real upgrades of any of the electronics, all I am doing is upgrading the mechanics of it.

The oem pads were approximately this big....
CATERA Front Pads

GTO Front Pads

C5 Vette Pads

I started with this upgrade... OEM calipers to the GTO dual piston ones and now I just went to a bigger C5 pad which is on the same frame as the GTO ones but has more pad material and much larger friction area.
I would say that at this point my braking is severly limited to tire grip, during panic stops the ABS has to kick in because even thou I am running 245/40-18 I can still lock them up on dry pavements. Talk about powerfull brakes and I havent even touched the rotors yet...

The picture below will show you how much smaller the oem brakes were compared to my current set up...

Do you think that the Brebo vented rotors would help even more

Re: GTO Calipers with C5 Brake Pads. OMEGA/CATERA

To answer your question, that is a no-no, those drilled/slotted rotors are garbage, they warp, they are too thin to begin with, then they are drilled whcih casues some internal stresses, and pretty soon you will see some cracks and then they could fail!

The OEM rotor is simply enough.
There are no added benefits to adding a drilled/slotted rotors.
All you are doing with this is reducing swept surface area, which would defeat the purpose of the larger pads.
