    Catera..... Need help!!!

    Hi,

I have a 98 catera and recently there's a minor leak by the driver's side rear end by the exhaust. I think it may be a coolant leak but no idea from where it is coming from. I cannot see any leak from the top of the engine........... and I have posted some pictures below so you could see it. Any ideas what it could be and recommendations?

Looksa little bit like oil to me. Is your oil OK? That Heater Valve can be one of the causes.

    Re: Catera..... Need help!!!

I changed the heater control valve few months ago. I think its coolant because I can see few drops dripping down when I have the car in the garage and it is not as thick as oil but I could be wrong or maybe leaking from the hose that is hooked up to the heater valve. I'll have to check it out and see if there is any hose leak. But also looks like oil on the transmission body.

    Thank you.

I still say it's the Heater Valve. I have replaced 2 in mine this year...

I haven't checked it yet and I think it is anti-freeze.

If you are sure that it's coolant than I would remove the intake manifold (upper and lower) and check your engine oil cooler cap.
If it's all dry at the cap and by the top of the head than I would closely check the metal oil cooler lines. Remove the coil pack that is behind the head for a closer look.

Mine looked identical to what you showed in the pictures but I was sure it was oil. Ended up being a head gasket.
Head was slightly warped and the gasket let go. Didn't need a lot of milling and a new gasket solved all issues.
