    Catera Parking Brake Boot Needed

The parking brake boot on my 1999 Catera (26,000 miles) needs to be replaced. It is made of fake leather, and the vinyl coating on the fabric is flaking off, exposing the fabric.

My FLD offered to replace the boot for "only" $375.

    Of course, I declined.

Any ideas where I can get a replacement boot?

    Thanks!

    $16.00 plus shipping

Sounds like they quoted you for the leather boot and transmission shifter knob (one piece), that would roughly be a correct price w/ installation.

    Thanks!

I called Lindsay Cadillac - Luke answered the phone. The part has increased in price - it's now $16.25! It's on the way.

Luke told me he receives several calls a day from people on the board looking for parts without a ripoff.

Excellent source. He can find parts because he knows where to look.

    Excellent resource!

    To be sure!

You know, I have given the SHIFT BOOT a great deal of love and attention --- and protectant! I cannot imagine how it would be replaced, since it does seem to be (UNNCESSARILY) in unit with the shift knob.

There is an O-ring holding the boot to the shifter. Also, you may have to cut it slightly and re-sew it. Unless you feel like disconnecting the shifter from the transmission...

I did the same as RCaddy - Used the original pleather to make a new pattern of pleather; used staple-gun (not glue) to afix the new pattern onto a plastic boot mount. Dont confuse its mounting angle in the car (top/bom. L/R) I used the original elastic bungy too - and sewn the rest of it - Cost less than $5 - for fabric.
