I have a 99 Cat with sport mode, that I want to drag race just to see what sort of time and speed it gets. We have a vacant street out in the country and someone marked off a quarter mile. Seems I go about 85 mph if I shift through the gears or leave it in drive. So I was wondering if anyone has any tips on how to get the best time. If you have raced what was your best time and speed?
I have installed a K&N air intake system and it increased my MPG and hope it improves my time.
While I have your attention my air conditioner blows hot air. Refrigerant is OK and the compressor clicks. Any ideas would be appreicated.
Rev it till the revlimiter hits in neutral and then just ease it on into drive. it should launch pretty hard. If that doesnt work try slaming it into reverse first then drive at wide open throttle. Thats How I have the most fun with my catera...

Went to the link you posted and it was very interesting. Thanks My Opel. 15.8 is awesome. Hope I get into the 15. I orginally thought I would be in the 16 so now I have a new goal.
Gunther1000, that is about the best way I know of to destroy a transmission. Might as well just leave it 3 quarts short so you can feel the rocket launch feeling of it switching gears while your at it.
Juneau69, the tick you hear is common on the Harrison V-5 compressor that is in the Catera. As for the blowing hot air, I really don't know much about AC systems in general. If it where me I would take it to a shop and have it diagnosis on what the problem was. Then decide whether I could fix or leave it to them.
Well water helps... I love power slides after pulling out of the car wash more than anyone... But to really get the smoke rollin you gotta try the rev and drop. It works im telling ya! Starky and hutch reverse flips around to drive are a common past time around Nashville... Cateras love it. While in neutral you will know she is ready when the tack is bouncing around 6 grand and wont rev any higher no matter what you do. Then simply shift it on into drive. I do Like the idea of letting some of the fluid out but I think thats just to much work.

Are you serious? This would do some real damage to the tranny
and would probably drop your drive shaft. I think I'll just beef up the HP
ie. headers, etc. You are a nut.
