    lowering catera

I have a 98 catera and want to lower my car. Intrax is the only company to make springs for this vehicle which drops about an inch to a half. Im wondering if this car will require a camber kit? If so, where do I get one for the catera. Also, how will the automatic leveler system wortk with lowering springs?

If you do springs, you'll want to do new shocks too...

Intrax makes camber kits but apparently not for the Catera. If it does need it, this may be one solution: http://www.ingallseng.com/cars/cadillac.html They only make the adjusting bolts for the front because the rear is non-adjustable. Plus the rear is already at a pre-set positive camber.

If you get new shocks, you'll have to disable the system somehow OR get passive shocks from this company: http://www.cadillacstruts.com/ This requires calling them, they will make you a pair for your vehicle.

    Re: lowering catera

I called cadillacstruts.com and they have nothing for the catera nor know anything about their suspension system. Anymore ideas?
If i just put the lowering springs on and a front camber kit, what will the auto leveler do?

    Re: lowering catera

IF the springs lower it enough, theres a possibillity that it may engauge the compressor, and when it cant raise the car up it will continue until it breaks. Or if its smart, it will shut itself off automatically and start showing an error code.

If its strong enough it'll raise the car up to its preset hight, and then it wont be lowered.

    Re: lowering catera

I had a set of intrax springs on my catera before bagging it. The camber got really bad in the back I burned through 4 new tires within a month and a half

I dont think it messed with the leveling system since it was only a couple inches but I cant remember for sure.

Is there anyway to adjust the camber in the rear if lowered? Or will you have to burn through the tires?

    Re: lowering catera

From what I read on the website, theres no way of adjusting it physically (with say, adjusting bolts) unless you get new control arms... which i cant seem to find.

Using an example from a user (named Catera) who joined recently, he has an Omega...

    Re: lowering catera

What about the front? Is it required to replace the struts with shorter struts if you're only lowering it 1.5"? Sounds like it may not be worth it with all of the little gotchas.

    Re: lowering catera

There are companies that make aftermarket shocks for the Catera (like there is for every vehicle) , who knows if you need shorter ones... 1-1.5 inches doesnt seem much for the shock...

    http://www.egclassic.com/grillecadillac.htm

E & G Classics makes one or two grills for the Catera.

If you want to get one thats more "racy" looking, you can go to a company that makes em for the Omega (the orignal car)...

and http://www.irmscher.com "Accessories Programme> Omega > till or from 1999, depending on your model"
