Weird whistling sound at startup

I have a werid whistling sound coming from the left (while I'm sitting in the car) wheel well. It only happens at startup and literally goes away after a minute or two.

My AC and heater have also just recently stopped working...is this related?

Thanks

Re: Weird whistling sound at startup

Bwhahahahah The Noise is my arch rival as well. It is your smog emmisions air pump straining against a closed control valve. Took me lots of time and exploration to figure that one out. If you just disconnect it via the plug you will get a code the second time you drive the car. I would swap out the control valve which you can see right when you open the hood behind the rad. on the battery side with like a 1 3/4" hose passing thru it and vac. lines connecting it. Good luck! P.S. in the morning when you first start it suck some vacume on that valve and it should change tone. The pump is fine it is just straining against the blockage!

Re: Weird whistling sound at startup

Gunther - I have the same problem...I am glad to know that the pump is working and it is just the control valve. I think I have located the "control valve" under the hood. I believe it is on the drivers side (like you said) right on top and is about 2 inches in diameter. Is that right? Now - on Gmpartsdirect they list a By-pass valve, Check valve, and a Control solenoid. Which one is it? I'm sure it is the most expensive one (haha) but, I thought I would ask. Thanks!

I really dont know for sure so I wont say. But I would find a break down of just call them. It could be any of the group really. I just rigged up the pump to blow off some pressure and quiet the noise. I did that by opening the snaps around the case a little. works fine and its free!
