Scan Gauge

Is it possible to buy a scan gauge for a 1997 Catera?
If you fart in this car, a sensor will light up on the dash....getting tired of running to the dealer.

Re: Scan Gauge

I was looking at the "scan gauge" that you linked.
Do you leave it in your car all the time or do you hook it up under the dash when needed?
How is yours hooked up?

Its cheaper and does what you need to diagnose problems. I used it to track sensor failures (makes a pretty graph of the O2 sensors) and clear CEL. You can't read it in real time like a Scangauge, it has to be removed.

Its great to put on a kid's car to keep up with the speeders and hard braking / accelleration - it does store all disconnect events too so it can't just be unplugged to hide some hot-rodding. Little brat may not even know its there until you log it on the PC and break out some wood on that punk's butt.

On that same note, may not be good to have plugged in if you like to drive wild it stores great evidence with pretty charts, my fiancee looked over my shoulder when I was admiring a peak run thru Atlanta's bypass. She wasn't impressed.

Re: Scan Gauge

I had a scangauge II in my Catera. I have regular Actron scanners, and they work very well. Here's the problem with the scangauge. I bought it because every so often, my transmission malfunction light would light up and would go into "limp home" mode. Now you can either turn the car off and back on, or clear it with a regular scanner while driving, so you don't have to stop. I just wanted a permanent scanner in the car to turn the light off and reset it, instead of having to reach down and plug in a regular scanner while driving and clear the tranny code and light. But the scangauge will NOT read transmission codes, only codes that illuminate the CEL. So if you just want it for CEL codes, it works great and you can fit it right in that space under the radio, and keep it there all the time. I just wish I had known it wouldn't read transmission codes, like other hand-held scanners will, since that's what I bought it for. I recently sold both the catera and the scanner, and I couldn't be happier...lol
