water leaking inside passage side?????

I have noticed some water (at least that is what I think it is) leaking into the cabin area on the front passenger side. It seems to be coming from behind the glove box area. Any ideas?
Thanks

Re: water leaking inside passage side?????

I had this problem and it was a clogged drain tube. Their is a drain tube that goes from under the windshield on the passenger side to the front passenger wheel-well. In my case, and from other posts I've read on here, it gets clogged with leaves and junk. I tested this by running the hose on my windshield - I could see the compartment filling with water. It eventually fills up enough to flow in through the cabin air filter. If this is your problem, your cabin air filter is probably soaked.

I have the same problem with 97. The fluid on my floor is coolant, not just rain water. My situation is a bad heater core. You need to determine is it water or coolant.

Re: water leaking inside passage side?????

as posted the first thing you need to determine..is it water or coolant, coolant can only lead to a heater core issue, if its water then a leak test needs to be performed, many factors invlving water, body seam, hhvac seal, sunroof drain issue

It is water, and when I look at the area around the cabin filter it is full of water. Could I just drill a hole in the basin? It doesn't look as if there is anything under it.

Re: water leaking inside passage side?????

The area that fills up is accessible by removing the cover to the cabin air filter. I cleaned out as many leaves from the bottom of the well as possible, then I applied the best tip I ever got on the Cadillac Catera Forum:

You tilt your wheels slightly to the left and you can see the rubber boot that covers the drain opening near the top of the right wheel opening. When I pulled the rubber boot off, I pulled the leaves out of the opening and water and debris came gushing out. That's all it takes - no additional holes necessary.

Barry

Don't drill, use a shop vac vacuum up the excess water, then use towels. You need to do it now, don't let it mildew up. Use a good carpet cleaner on it a couple of times and scrub it good.
