Shifter lever is stuck! Please help

Ok, last night i got really angry and i shoved the shifter from D to P really fast and hard and i noticed later that the little lever that pulls up and down on the shifter doesnt move smoothly anymore. It doesnt automaticly go down after i pull it up. I have to manually push it down so that it doesnt go into lower gears accidently. I tried taking that lever off to see what is wrong but it seems complicated. Does anyone know how i can fix this to how it was before. Please if you know how to take off the shift knob that would be great too. thanks.

Re: Shifter lever is stuck! Please help

Hi, I assume that it is difficult to move from Park to anything. Remove the leather boot around the shifter (it is secured by clips that will "pop" and you pull on the boot. There magnetic shift lock could be damaged, you can manually lift the lock and put the stick in Drive/Reverse/Neutral, etc. By removing that clip you should be able to move the shifter; however, the shift lock is now disengaged which could pose a safety problem.

Re: Shifter lever is stuck! Please help

Yes i can manage to shift into the gears, but i have to manually pull the lever down after i shift into gear so that it doesnt slip into a lower gear as im driving. I just need advice on how to fix that lever peice to function as it did, with a spring like action. Right now it just stays where i leave it, it is pretty much stuck and hard to move. Is there a way that i can pull that lever off and see what is wrong? I know how to take off the leather boot, but i cant do much when i take that off. Is there a way to screw off the entire shift knob??
