? about my catera. please read! HELP!

I took my catera to the shop and got a diagnostics done on it and they told me that the aux. pump was leaking, but when I was looking under the hood, I seen not just a pump next to the battery, but also one under the reservoir tank. They look damn indentical to each other. Does anyone know if there is in fact 2 of these aux. pumps or what? I am so confused. Any help would be appreciated.

Yes there are two electric aux pumps (and one mechanical - this thing is built like a klingon so many damn pumps). The one on the radiator is referred to as the "auxillary water pump". The on under the resevoir on the firewall is referred to as 'heater auxillary water pump". They are indeed identical.

However you may find two different part numbers depending where you look. Just confuses matters more.

hey thanks so much for the reply. its so damn stupid why there are even those two aux pumps, just more damn money. but ya i ended up buying one and im pretty sure the one on the radiator is leaking, but at the same time, my heater doesnt blow HOT air, only warm, so im thinking its the HCV, could it be that second aux pump?

3.0L saturn L-series vehicles have the same thing going on (very similar engine to the catera)

there was a bulletin on removing one of the aux pumps for the saturns (i think a redesigned hose was required)

also the Heater Control Valves on those cars are a pretty fast moving part here, so I wouldn't be surprised if that was bad as well.

If it's stuck closed then you won't get enough coolant thru the heater core to heat up the air in the vents.
