Angry $450 Shocks??? I Think Not..

Remove this ad
can someone help me...my 2000 catera is making alot of noise when i ride over a pothole or bump. it's really bad, makes me wanna cry. It comes from the rear passenger side tire. I had a mechanic look at it, saying that i needed new suspension shocks and that the price was a $450/per shock. He also said that i would need two of them. So thatll be 900 just for shocks. So where can i get cheaper shocks and service. Im in the DC MD area. the noise is really bad and my leveling and brake pads lights are on. I just wanna sell the care b/c it also takes up alot my gas and is expensive and hard to repair. I jus wanna a "regular" car. My catera has app. 127,000 miles. How much do you think i could sell it for? but most important, where can i get cheap shocks? thank u

Re: $450 Shocks??? I Think Not..

well what i did was buy the GTO rear shock. they fit perfectly... this disables the air leveling system.. also gives you better handeling... you just have to remove the leveling bulb or it'll keep flashing

rock auto has them for $50 or so for 2

Re: $450 Shocks??? I Think Not..

Haha... 450/shock... no way!... You should reply back and say...alright I will sell you the whole car for 9000, well know off 900 for those shocks... Deal?

I remember another member who got quoted 1000$ for his brakes...

No you see why the value of the car is so crappy... its because of mechanics like that...
Go to autozone and see if they sell em too... then have shop replace them... they shouldn charge you more then 30min labor per side!

As for your Brake Pad light, you need new pads.... not a bad job, you can do that yourself as well.

As for the leveling, just pull the fuse out and say the hell with it...

Ohh and go with the GTO shocks if you wanna do the cheap way.

I like my rear leveling working so I usually stick with the OEM stuff... or proper replacements...

Remember, you have to disable the Self Leveling system or the Leveling light will haunt you forever.

Re: $450 Shocks??? I Think Not..

Yup, any 04+ will work. I don't know about the aftermarket ones, but... should. For stock shocks I wouldn't give half a million miles...
