Radio, fuel door, trunk down, still down after changed mulitfuntion module!!
2000 Catera: I have an sliver of gas left and three work days to go 7000 bux after taxes and timing belt change and i cant even put gas in my car. I have gas to get me -maybe - through tomorrow.
Radio, fule door, trunk all been down for near a week. I ordered a multifunction module changed it properly and still NOTHING!!!!!
I have never been so let down by a car ever in my life. the time when I need it the most (new job requires car). I'm pulling my hair out and have no idea what to do.
I think I'm going to have it towed to the dealership[ and see what they'll give me and take the loss. What a nightmare. I hate this car. i really regret buying it already at 3 months in.
Any help appreciated

Re: WTF? Radio, fuel door, trunk down, still down after changed mulitfuntion module!!
Have you checked all the fuses. The fuse panel under the Knee pad panel is where the main fuse panel is. If you can't fix it right away. Open the truck - if you can - if you can't let the driver's side rear seat down and locate the emergency opening cable to open it.open the door on the right side of the inside of the trunk and look for the two silver phillips head screws. Remove them and pull the fuel door lock solenoid towards the rear of the car to disengage it from the fuel door.

and I'm reading on another site this problem may be a relay problem from rear window defroster. wtf man, seriously>? it could be infinite things with no solution in sight.

Just physically take each fuse out and check the continuity. The radio receives power from more than one fuse. It will take a little while but you can remove the fuel door sokiniod out in less than a minute so that will at least let you put gas in it. I will try to look at my parts car and see if I can recreate the problem with it.

Sad to hear you didn't catch the fly and are still stuck at the compound (and I wonder if anyone here is old enough to get that reference)....I remember when I had the problem the panel switches would fail but the remote would work to open trunk and fuel door. and would make the radio come back on (unless I had lights or AC or other hi-load components on). And the radio would always work when I turned the ignition OFF since, as SC stated it is two different power circuits.
Other possibility is that you do have a low voltage situation. You should be at 13.6-14.1 volts when car is running. Mine runs around 13.6 after 10 minutes. If that voltage is low the module is doing what it is supposed to do (drop out non-essential components - but GM and I have a different opinion on the essential nature of tunes, and one coud argue reasonably that fuel door is essential as well). The red area on the voltmeter gauge is 12.6, next large division is 13V.
Possibilities there are positive / negative cables (read some reports of corrosion in the cables causing hi resistance); weak battery; failing alternator (although I expect alternator to either work or not work); or some other component causing hi drain on the charging system. Another possibility is the heater auxillary water pump - if it is failing it create a hi load on the same circuit as the dropping components and causes the multifunction module to drop them out).

fuses are fine scatera, checked
took the car into GM today, know in the morning. going to do a diagnostic.
lakeside park: My voltage is runnign about 7.5 V. I'm suspecting u are right and there is some kind of drain on the battery because power items seem to be falling like dominoes. 1st it was radio, then trunk, fuel door and yesterday I noticed the lil dashboard clock was gone too.
Let ya know what is up when I find out. Appreciate all your help.
Re: Radio, fuel door, trunk down, still down after changed mulitfuntion module!!
I remember when my fuel door and trunk release went out on me in my 99. At first it was just the buttons on the dash that didnt work and then one day i dropped my keys with the remote on the ground and there went all access to the trunk and gas tank. Once i got into the trunk, pulled the fuel door lock solenoid to release the fuel door, I took my dremel with a cutoff wheel and cut a small notch in the small ring on the inside of the fuel door that the rod from the lock actuator would slide into so the fuel door would stay closed once the rod slid forward again. Worked like a charm. The notch i cut was just big enough to fit snug around the rod and held the fuel door in place. It sure beat reaching through the trunk everytime i needed to fill up. What a pain I wound up donating that damn car to charity. It was fun while it lasted
Re: Radio, fuel door, trunk down, still down after changed mulitfuntion module!!
Okay, problem fixed by GM.
It was the multifunction module AND a corroded wire from the BCM and some kind off relay mumbo jumbo. 450$ which is cool. Problem solved.
Got lube oil and filter and had them run a full inspection - fronts brakes replaced was all that was required (I knew that they needed replacing so no surprise).
