This appears to be the most up to date thread on the Catera V-8 conversion projects, so I will try to keep people up to speed who are interested in my conversion project. I have purchased the last kit from Jason at Lingenfelter and have begun converting my 2001 Catera over to a V-8. This car was my wifes daily driver and the engine took a crap at just over 100k miles. Very disappointing to say the least. The engine and transmission has been removed and we are waiting on the parts from Jason. Hopefully, with the car gods on our side this conversion will move along quickly. Fortunately, my father is retired and an LS engine freak. He is looking forward to the project and its challenges. I will throw together a crappy little website to document the project, check back for the URL. Thanks to everyone who has posted to these conversion threads, they are very informative.
I want to hear more about your project but You really should start your own thread. It's considered rude to hijack another's. It's great that you have your father to help you. Seeing that he's an LS1 lover he probably has a well equipped garage. I always wanted to build a car with my son but it never happened. Good luck to you both.
Loved the vid. Watched it at least 3 times. I can spot the ball joints and rear/vertical bushings for the front lower control arm. I also see some black bushings I can't ID. What are they? I see fancy colored polyurethane bushings too. The rear trailing arm bushings I know about, but are those red poly anti-sway bar bushings I see? Where did you find them? Are they front or rear? Are those grease fittings on them? Sorry for all the questions but I'd love to add them to my Suspension Upgrades file. Those and any other bushings you have, poly or rubber. You know what a nut I am for bushings.
The big black ones just under the blue ones are GTO subframe bushings from energy suspensions they have 2 versions street and race the ones you see are race. not sure if they work yet, will let you know.
Prothane front universal greaseable poly 26mm sway bar bushings. You can buy them at jegs.
the ones in the bottom of the pic are for the horizontal front control arm. i accidently ordered the wrong M5 bushings and when i saw the price for the right ones i figured i'd try to make the wrong ones fit. thats a metal band around them to compensate for the low spot.
the width of the bushings are fine the center diameter is nice and tight, i just had to cut down the shoulders and press them in place. used a vice and lots of grease.
I'm new here, and been watching your build. Wanted to know how its going? I'm looking at a 2000 Cattera, that might need an engine. So I was watching your build to see if its something I wanted 2 do.
I believe there is another LS1 build topic. Also check out my "Project CATERROR" thread. Don't mean to jack up yours, MyOpel, but 2 or 3 heads are going to be better than 1 We will have to share our knowledge. And then a track...
been busy and didn't have good weather on my free days so progress is slow.
v8 front subframe is in and the front suspension is mounted.
rear subframe is out right now-poly gto rear forward bushings fit!
all v8 brake lines are mounted
slave cylinder and clutch pedal is mounted to the car
custom ac bracket worked over and installed on the engine

save your money and buy a v8 car. When I committed to this project the price of an lsx car was much higher and we were not able to import the gto to Canada.
Consider:
98-02 Camaro/firebird
04-06 GTO
04-08 CTS-V
You can even find some great deals on 97-04 corvettes
Not trying to discourage a conversion but keep in mind there will be a lot of customizing time and effort to convert. Also there are no longer any conversion kits available.

no problem, hope to have some fun at the track next spring.
