    Catera V8 by Lucky Cowboy

The owner, Jeric, has swapped the 3.0L V6 for a 5.7L V8. His page says he's still working on it but the engine and transmission are in. The engine is carburated and the tranny a 4 speed manual so no ECM headaches. It wouldn't pass emissions tests in NY but he's in Texas so maybe it's different there. I invited him to come and tell us about the project. There's been a lot of discussion here about the V8 swap but this is the first time, other than Catera V's Cat, that I've seen one get to this stage. I wish him luck and hope he stops by.

I was rhinking about doing the same thing! But here somewhere I read that EBTCM is not a standalone computer, and I would like to keep my ABS and TC even if I remove the ECU and tranny computer.
P.S. for now, we are putting a 305 in my friend's '83 Malibu Wagon on Sunday. The stock 3.8 V6 crapped out...

The ABS is stand alone. The TC is not becuase the EBTCM has to tell the engine to cut timing and shut off fuel injectors. So when you remove the ECU, this is not possible.

Looks like the engine is sitting awfully high in the engine bay. It would have to be high to clear the cross member and probably had to severly modify the oilpan to clear the steering. Being that high, he probably had to modify the firewall and trans tunnel to make it fit. I would like to see how it runs afterwards.

So, I will still have ABS but not TC? That's fine I guess...
