Well its Dead Again

This car is driving me crazy. It will run fine for a while and then drop dead when you least expect it. I was two lights from the interstate this morning and just before the light changed it died. Had a dozen commuters behind me pissed off because there was no way around me. Got out, disconnected the battery for 1 minute jumped back in and it then started. I had driven the car last week by Autozone and they checked it. No error codes. This is going to be a real pain to figure out. I doubt it is the computer. When they go, they usually donot work again no matter what you do. Money is tight with a daughter in college, 3 car payments and the house with the wife unemployed. With the way gas prices are going, I may have to start driving a bike to work, but I would probably get run over by these tourists in Orlando.

Re: Well its Dead Again

Its bound to be either a cam sensor or crankshaft sensor.

Mine was a cam(s) sensor. Did the same thing and didnt throw up any codes.

Its funny, there have been so many problems with people's cam/crank sensors this year... its like they are all going.

Re: Well its Dead Again

Ouch....yeah, i know what its like to have people behind you and a car thats not moving....in my case, it was when i was learning the ol' 5 speed, LOL
I wasnt that bad, but my second time behind the wheel, went through in some traffic...stalled it twice, took a few seconds to restart the engine and get moving.....had one guy yelling out his window at me, so i just rev'd it up real high and dumped the clutch....my uncle (who was teaching me) just laughed, LOL
Yeah, hope ya get that problem worked out...BTW, did you change the valve cover gaskets saturday like you said you were going to?

Re: Well its Dead Again

I am giving up on trying to figure this one out. It ran fine the rest of the day and this morning it sits in my driveway dead again (figures after I just filled the tank). Im going to try and limp it over to my buddy's shop across town after dinner. It seemed funny that when I called Cadillac asking about cost and availability of the cam position sensor, the parts guy said it was $188 and they never get a call on that part. Beats me. Oh well. I keep you all posted on the outcome.

PS: Speedy: I researched the valve cover gasket replacement and the only way to replace them is to pull the plenum chamber and the intake tubes. I donot have the time or patience to mess with it and will let my mechanic deal with it later.

Re: Well its Dead Again

Well guys I just got off the phone about my Cat with my mechanic friend. We had it to over to him this past Monday evening. They figured out that the crank sensor was bad. So, all I know right now is that it will be running this afternoon and the part only came to $96. Im afraid to find out how much they will charge me for labor on this since it didn't register anything on the computer that it was bad. At least I can stop driving my wife's Expedition to work spending over $65 a week in gas. I hope this will be good for a few more months.
