Electric Superchargers...

Does anyone have any info in these? I've been really wanting to get one but would it be worth it? I bought a K&N cone filter and I really liked the increase in power. Not to mention how much better it sounds. Sounds like an Escalade!

there is no increase in power with the cone filter. it was dyno proven with no filter at all (therefor no restriction) and it had no gain on horsepower.

the electric superchargers are a joke. they dont push enough air. if anything it will restrict airflow.

I still felt a little more pep replacing the air box but I'll take your word on the supercharger. I was just reading a thing about it actually reducing air flow. I just save that money for something I really want. Like purple xenons!!

thats money much better spent then the electronic supercharger....

here is the short story on them.. I was looking for one to put on my Neon and I guess the neon sucked something like 580CFM.... of air and the supercharger can only push around 300-400CFM depending on the size not to mention the 10amp draw of power so on the 2.0L it would act as a restrictor and then the extra current draw will cause my alternator to take more power from the engine so rather then adding 20-30hp well it actually steals that much from you and in the end you can end up with a broken alternator or fried wiring or who knows what... Our Caddy with the 3.0L might suck in as much as 800-1000CFM... so you do the math...

Just get some HIDs and call it a day... the supercharger will be a waste of money, you will be better off with some lighter wheels... then you can feel the difference... at least I did...

There are some real electronic turbo/superchargers on the market. Make no mistake they are no easier to install then a run of the mill turbo or supercharger in most cases they are more complex. They require three to four batteries to spin them fast enough to create boost conditions. In this way an electronic turbo/supercharger runs under the same principles as a car with hydraulics. The more voltage the faster it will spin or the more voltage the faster the hydraulics can lift. On top of the added weight of the batteries (70-100lbs each), you will also have to worry about recharging the batteries just like a car with hydraulics. To ensure that the batteries do not just go dead in one WOT they are usually fashioned to get some charge back from the alternator and they will only activate on preset conditions. They run just as much as a normal supercharger or turbo with the added cost of the batteries and they are not cheap. In other words it is just not worth it at this time for most people. I did read a rather extensive right up in Turbo Magazine which gave hope for future developments that are a little more feesible.

There are none, all of these electric superchargers are a complete scam.
BTW a turbocharger by definition is always exhaust driven.

I was assuming that the orginal poster was referring to the cheap ones that you see on places like E-bay. I was not. This is a link that talks about the types of electronic turbo/superchargers. Turbo electronic supercharger

Turbo is driven by exhaust
Supercharger is driven by a belt
A turbinecharger is driven by a gear
No definition for what you call an electronic device that does the exact same thing as the above three.

Turbo charger is exhaust driven.
Supercharger is mechanically driven by gears, belts, chain, hydraulics, shaft.
There are some exotic and weird piston, eductor, and air jet forced air induction systems as well.

I always knew that Turbo was a hardcore ricerboy magazine, but wow. They just moved themself to a new level of absurdity.

This is utterly the most ridiculous power modification I've ever seen.

I doubt we will ever see much of this product in the future.

Ok remove the 3 starter motors 6 batteries and all the heavy gauge wiring, mount the supercharger properly with a belt and you will have a nice smooth power band and more power. No lag, no decrease in power at higher rpm where it counts, no worrying if the batteries have enough juice, and best of all the power is always there whenever you put your foot down. Instead of wasting money on this electrical supercharger why not just buy a 150 shot nitrous kit. That too is instant power at the flick of a switch and you don’t have to worry about power dropping after you engage the shot.

no, definatly not putting a nitrous kit on a Cadillac. Especially a Catera. So these cheap chargers are a no go with all the input from you all (thank you) and research I have done myself. But I came across a performance chip last night here: http://www.autodirectsave.com/prod/S...p_Combo/544396
