1999's dont have as much problems as the 98-97, the car was redesigned.. but occasionally it still pop's up. Valve cover gaskets is the only one ive seen really on the 99'. There is the oil cooler, but thats for every model... 97-98's get it more and the 99-01's ...its supposedly been fixed in those years, but crops up once and a while.

I just received a passed down 98 catera with 14,000 miles. Doesnt have bose or a sunroof. I hope I dont have any problems. First expensive one I encounter I'll start looking at a 2000 or a 2001.

Re: Considering an older Catera? READ THIS>>

i just bought a 1997 catera loaded with all of the recalls fixed, but i seem to be having a problem with the sensor, every place i have taken it to doesnt really seem to have any idea whats going on, but every once in a while the little *(!)* light comes on and i have to turn it off and on to get it to accelerate for shit, any suggestions? its got 101k miles on it and everything else seems to run just fine, but this problem is kind of pissing me off. Any help or suggestions on what to tell the repair shops to look for would be nice, i have taken it to three different places, all seemed to have their head up their ass, if anyone has had this problem and gotten it fixed, please let me know what the deal is, my email is blunt@mwjz.com or you can reply here, im absolutely clueless.
Thanks!
-Blunt

That ! symbol, is because the car has automatic headlights... apparently your Twilight sentinel control is off (can be oprated where the headlight controls are). Turn it back on and that should go away. Its in your manual.
