    '97 Oil Pressure

    Can Anyone Tell Me The Normal Oil Pressure For A 97 Catera, Just Bought It Everything Seems Ok, But Oil Pressure Goes Down To Very Low At Idle And Up To 80 On Tghe Hiway, Is This Normal Or Ok?.. Thanks

    How low is low? Did it have an oil change before you bought it? What type of oil was put in it?

    It is normal to have very low oil pressure at idle. If you are not getting an oil pressure warning light then it is fine. The systems are sized correctly for the engine and as a result have very low pressure at idle RPM when hot. Excess oil pressure at idle just wastes energy and costs fuel economy. The engine needs little or no oil pressure at idle so it is not a problem.
