Another 04 caliper set available on GTO forum. Quote: "Will be replacing the ´04's with Wilwoods tomorrow. Pads are Porterfield RS4's and over 50% still left."
Anyone?

Re: GTO Brake SWAP LOG.

GTO calipers and brackets painted black- CHECK! , C5 Hawk pads for the front- CHECK! , drilled rotors with hub area painted black- CHECK! (I also painted the top edge of the rotors black because that's where it's very visibe when they rust). Brake fluid- CHECK! Now just waiting for the rear Hawk pads to come in. I'll take pictures before I put everything on. I was also thinking about the braided steel brake lines. Are they worth it?
Thanks,
Aras

Re: GTO Brake SWAP LOG.

r-caddy so you have a 97 and are you still using the stock 16inch rims with this set up? and what exactly did you use because i need to get my brakes done and if i can do this upgrade why spend money on stock brake system.

Thanks
blackcat

Re: GTO Brake SWAP LOG.

The stock 16 inch wheels work fine, go back a few pages, I posted a photo with the wheel mounted with the GTO setup.

Re: GTO Brake SWAP LOG.

Hey guys, finally got all the parts for the swap. Spent a little time and here's what I got (sorry for the dirty wheels)
Drilled rotors, new Hawk pads- C5 Vette's in the front, regular in the rear, caliper parts painted black

I painted the rear dust cover black to keep it from being seen. Will probably paint the rear caliper black later as well

looks quite clean

C5 pads slide right into the GTO calipers

pad size and caliper comparison

and the result

Took the car out last night. Broke the pads in. Did a couple slow speed sudden stops and... wow... really nice and tight. The only bad thing- the Vette pads do rattle, but that's OK. I can aways go to GTO pads if I want to.
Oh yeah, and I beat a Cayman S 3 times on a roll while out...
Later

Thats because you didn't install the vette retaining clips.
bottom right of this pic

you can see them installed on my brakes here (between the pad and bracket):

Re: GTO Brake SWAP LOG.

My pads didn't come with the clips, but the guy that sold me the calipers sent me his old GTO pad clips. I was wondering where they go and if the fit the C5 pads. Thanks for letting me know, MyOpel. Otherwise, what do you guys think?
Later, Aras
