Catera with 161,000 Miles...how much of a gamble?

Hi all,

I am new here. I thought i would get some help from the experienced
I am looking at buying a catera, never thought i would but i came across this vehicle: 2001 Cadillac Catera...it has 161,000 miles on it. How much of a gamble do you think buying this car will be given the high mileage? anyone knows how durable these engines relatively are? The car is cheap, listed for $2500. I know with a pontiac/ford/chevrolet car with this kind of mileage, one should start thinking about having to replace engine/transmission anytime at this point. Is the catera the same story? Thanks

Re: Catera with 161,000 Miles...how much of a gamble?

To me the miles mean absolutely nothing.
I look at the overall shape of the car and how it was maintained.

My 97 has 145K miles and is running great even though it wasn't in the best of shape when I got it. (it was worth the $1000 I payed)

$2500 isn't that much and you should get some drive time out of it. If the engine dies than you can pick a new one up for $1500. If you don't want to bother with the motor than you can always part it out and get your money back.

The Catera is a decent car if you can work on it your self and not have to rely on others.
