Wanting a second opinion

I was driving my car Friday. I whipped into my buddies driveway (gravel). At this point I thought I saw some smoke coming from the right top side of the steering column. Really I could not tell for sure as I was hauling ass and dust was every where. When I turned off the car I paused for a second and realized that my right hand with cigarette was near that spot on top of all the dust. Still the same I could almost thought I smelt burnt plastic. Turn the key back to run no smoke said screw thought I was being paranoid as usual. Handled my business inside and came out only to find that my car was cranking/not starting.

I am assuming it is the ignition switch. Scanned but no codes came up. Removed all covers around the area to see if I for some reason saw any melted wires or things of that nature, nothing. All fuses look good. Can not really think of anything else given the circumstances.

Any suggestion, thoughts, input?
