cooling fan not running

my fan is not turning on when the car gets hot. Any way to check to see if the fan works or if it could be something else? Thanks. BTW, it is a 98 catera.

What temperature is it getting up to?

What is happening is that the guage will read a little past half way and then the oil pressure will go into the red and start sounding the alarm. I finally realized that the fan was not turning on. I tried turning on the air conditioner to see if the smaller fans would turn on and one did but the other didn't. I do know that I have a bad auxiliary water pump which needs to be changed but i don't think that should affect the fan.
