1998 Catera Problems (HELP)

I'm having problems with my car its a 1998 Catera with 106k miles.

Just recently the speedometer stoped working, the TC light on the dash ABS light on the dash stay on at all time. When the car shifts from 1st gear to 2nd gear it revs real high and jerks the whole car. Then the car just moves real slow. It dosent do it every time but it is getting worse. When this happens I pull over and turn the car off. When I restart it it works just fine almost like I reset somthing. I dont think its a transmition problem just because it only happens from 1st gear to 2nd gear. All other gears are smooth. I think it might be electrical?

Also the power steering goes out on me every once in a while. Then out of the blue it comes back. I checked the fluid and its fine.

If anyone has any sugestions please let me know.

are your stop lights working, a bad brake light switch will do this. TC and ABS light will come on along with the shift problem....

I had a similar problem on my '99 Cat. The symptoms sound the same. The end result was the ABS module had gone bad. If this is the case with you, stay away from the dealership. Just for the module alone, they wanted to charge me
$1,082 and some change.

I went hunting around and found a salvage yard in Seymour, CT that had Catera spare parts. End result:

ABS module -- $100.00

Shipping -- $15.00

Getting someone reasonable -- $150.00 (vs. $600.00 labor at the stealership)

Salvage ABS module installed and working properly & solving the problem............PRICELESS!!!!
