Alarm system Lights wont stop flashing

Hi All,

I have a strange problem. My 01 catera's security system wont stop flashing. I can still start it and drive it but the lights just flash and I hear a clicking noise from the relays under the steering wheel. I had to pull the horn relay because it honked every second.

Any advice on what could be causing this?

Do you have a remote transmitter? If not I assume you open the door with a key?
The computer may not be seeing the rotation of the lock cyilnder, it thinks you broke into the car so it sets off the content theft alarm.
The ignition sees a valid input so the immobilizer won't kill the car, but the content theft alarm is going off.
You might need to have the wiring checked or replace the switch inside the door for the lock cylinder to disarm the alarm.
If you use your keyless remote, it will do the same thing.
Getting a remote is probably a cheaper and easier solution.

I am using the keyless remote, however for some reason it stopped working too. COuld it be that this is somehow linked? I am going to buy a new battery to see if it helps, but in the past, with my other catera, the keyless stopped working over a long period of time, not just all at once.

If the keyless doesn't work, just get that fixed and you should be good to go.
It is hard to say what the problem is, it is most commonly a transmitter or battery but there are other things it COULD be.
