coil pack problem?

Remove this ad
symptom: idles rough at cold start and has less than perfact accelleration.

I am getting a multiple cylider misfire on #4 and #6.
I found oil in one of the spark plug wells a week ago. I cleaned it out and scheduled for the drivers side valve cover gasket to be replaced. Today I checked again to see how much oil had leaked in there since I cleaned em.
I noticed the coil pac is rusted and has some cracks in the #4 and #6 coils (hope thats the right name) I imagine they are expensive so I dont want to jump the gun and buy them if I dont need them.

How likely is it that this is causing the problem? I know they can have a littl rust and still work so I dont want to jump to conclusions. What do you guys think?

Thanks for your help guys!

Here are some pics of my drivers side coil pac:

Re: coil pack problem?

just spoke with the dealer. The coil pack is bad. Its gonna be $250 to 2 fix it. Not bad since its $215-$225 from an auto parts store. So heres my question, why is the passenger side coil $164 and the drivers side $225? (Advance Auto Parts) Other parts stores seem to be the same. The drivers side is always more expensive. Why is that? The look the same to me

Re: coil pack problem?

Why do you ask about pressure washing?

no I havent but I just bought the car from a car lot 3 weeks ago.
I know the valve cover used to leak. Maybe the moisture from that caused the rusting?

Re: coil pack problem?

rock auto has these and it shows the different cars it will fit. Rock auto says the 99-01 catera coil pack will also fit the 03-04 cts. Is this correct? If so gm parts direct sells the cts packs for about $65 per side. On the flip side the ones for the catera are over $100.
