Starting car problem - Have to wait now

Hi all,

I own a 2001 Catera Sport. I now have this weird problem with my car.

When I put the key in the ignition I have to wait for until all the lights start doing their startup thing before starting my car.

I used to just put the key in the ignition and fire it up right away. Now, it doesn't allow me to do this. If I try to fire it up quickly nothing happens..no sound nothing.

Is there something that has broken ?
