    accelerator pedal position sensor

Hi. I took my BLS to an auto electrician who scanned the computer ans retrieved the codes P2123 and P2138, both pointing to the accelerator pedal position sensor. I started searching the net for a solution and found the part 9186726. McCarthy GM and William Hunt GM have given me the part 12793153, which appears to be the complete pedals assembly (brake and clutch pedals included). Can I buy only the accelerator pedal and replace it only? That will save me a lot of money. The complete pedal assembly (12793153) costs R13500, about 1000 pounds. The accelerator pedal alone is R987, less than 100 pounds. Any advice? are these the correct part numbers?

    Jerry

    jerry, hi.

I'm assuming you're in the PE area judging by the fact you'e in contact with William Hunt GM? Although I'm in the UK, I'm a frequent visitor to both the Eastern and Western Cape, so I know the dealership in PE from formally living in Uitenhage. I've only just recently returned from SA. If this situation had arisen just a couple of months back, we could have sorted something out and I'd have brought whatever parts I could have legally carried. Shame.

Anyway, hopefully, you might be able to do this quite cheaply. In the UK, there is a vehicle known as the Vauxhall Vectra. The BLS is based on the same Epsilon floor pan and there are many parts that are interchangeable with the Vectra and indeed, use the same part numbers. It is also true of the Saab 9-3 on which the BLS is pretty much based on, only the body styling is different, otherwise the car is pretty much a Saab.

So, use the following UK Ebay links and you'll see that what you are after is available. Just plug the part numbers you have into the Ebay search function and the options will hopefully come up.

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/vauxhall-v...item27db0049d5

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SAAB-9-3-B...item27daec089f

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_tr...at=0&_from=R40

The prices (although they are for second hand/used parts) are significantly different than in Rands!

You never know, if you can find a Saab specialist or ex dealer in SA, they might even be able to help with obtaining the parts at significantly cheaper cost, but I'm guessing you'll have better luck getting stuff from the UK.

If you do choose to buy from Ebay, make sure you communicate with the seller first re postage and possible import tax costs to SA and make sure you pay by PAYPAL.

You could also give the following service centre in the UK a call. It is where I take my own car for its annual service and they are excellent. If you provide them with your VIN, they shouldn't have any problem finding your car on the GM system.

    Evans Halshaw Accident Repair Centre,
    & PDI centre,
    Cranfield Rd,
    Wavendon,
    Milton Keynes.MK17 8LQ
Tel (don't forget to put the UK overseas code in and drop off the zero (0)1908-288659

Please keep us posted on how things go.

I am in Pretoria. The nearest William Hunt are in Pretoria and Fourways (Johannesburg). Thanks a lot for the response. When are u returning to SA? I am guessing here you arrive first at OR Tambo, which is pretty close to Pretoria?

    jerry,

Hi again. Won't be back in SA again for a few months because of work comittments, but yes, I always fly into OR Tambo and then fly down south. As I say, it's a shame (sort of!) that the issue didn't arise a few weeks back because I'm sure we could have sorted something out.

I hope you get some joy with the avenues I've provided. I'm sure though, there must be Saab's knocking around Pretoria/Joburg or dismantlers that will have the bits you need either still in the cars or on a shelf.

    Be lucky!
