2001 seville sls rear rattling or clunking noise

when I am going over railroad tracks or something similar I get a rattle or clunk noise out of the back...

At first I was thinking it was the shocks and after doing some research found out from gmpartsdirect they're about 160+ each... but I was later told that I would know with my air shocks as the pump/compressor would always be running or at least enough that I would notice it... which it doesn't I only "notice" it a little bit after I start the car which I read is normal (It may under load change but never really paid attention). I also just read the other day and I may have read it wrong that I can buy the shocks for a lot cheaper from rock auto. So now I am really confused as to what type of shocks I need. Contacting the dealer only gets me high priced shocks and going to the local advance/autozone gives me a price of 500+... so any help would greatly appreciated...

    To further my confusion...

I was told by the same person that said I don't need shocks that I just need bushings.... well I have read where you can't just buy bushings for you seville you have to buy the whole control arm. However I see bushings for sale for my caddy from everyone. and I am coming to the realization that I really can't rely on the words of friends and parts counter guys when it comes to a caddy in general as the same rules don't always apply...

So here I am wanting to get rid of the rattle... want to and enjoy doing it myself but don't want to just buy part after part to find out it won't fit... it can't be done... or that wasn't the problem...

So any help would be greatly appreciated...

    Thanks

You might get a better response if you post in the correct section. This is the BLS Forum . . .
