Locked out of car due to alarm tripping

I arrived back at Gatwick from Jersey this afternoon to find that I could not get back into my car, i.e. the central locking was inoperative.

I eventually worked out that the clumsy parker in the beaten up old banger pick up parked next to me must have knocked my car (only 12 inch gap) when getting out of their piece of junk and must have set off the alarm.

You may all know this already, but the fob separates to provide a manual key that you can use to open the passenger front door. It triiggered off the alarm and I had to crawl accross the front to the driver seat. I re-assembled the key and the car started.

Thought this might be useful for some of you one day!

Thanks. I didn't know that and one day it could be invaluable.

Re: Locked out of car due to alarm tripping

I should imagine that if the alarm continues, eventually something must shut this down and just kick in the immobiliser.

When I opened the passenger door manually the alarm went off but no other door would open until I started the engine.

I note that the alarm system has 2 levels. If you are travelling on a ferry where there is expected movement the alarm can be set to cater for this.
