I just set myself up with an AVIC N2 in my 97 Deville... I'm into electronics, but this graphical user interface is one of the most awkward things I've ever seen.
1. Every time I put in an MP3 cd or regular CD, and after driving around listening for a while, I'll shut off my car when I get to my destination. When I restart my car, I have to start playing the cd again from the begining. Is there any setting that can save the position in the song that I'm in so it starts back up there when I drive again?
2. It seems that evertime I start my car, I have to change the audio settings back to the way I want them, they keep resetting. How can I save the changes I make so they stick?
3. Is there a random play function for the cd? I have MP3 CD's that have hundreds of songs, and I don't want to listen to them in the same order everytime.
4. If I get one of those capacator thingys that help the battery, can I use the system while my engine is off for an hour or so without draining the regular battery?
5. Every time I turn the car on I get an error message on the avic screen that says it's detected a fault with the parking brake lead or something. Is there a way to bypass this warning/error message?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

2. I had this same problem with my AVH5700, your memory wire isn't working right. Take it to the shop where it was installed and tell them to put the memory wire str8 to the battery.
3. Yes, if you go into FUNC I believe you can turn it to RNDM there.
4. A cap will not help one bit, all they do is save up power for one large hit and then let it all go and charge back up. If you buy a Optima Yellow Top, you can play it for hours and it won't drain, it's a deep cycle battery.
5. Do you have it so you can watch while you drive? If so, that's your problem, your parking brake wire is grounded out. While your at your shop for the memory wire, tell them to make your Parking Sensor on a switch, so instead of just grounding it out, you can flip the switch and it will play just fine. And if a cop comes you can say officer, I can't watch while I drive.

Thanks, I'm going to give your tips a shot, however, I don't have the dvd player bypassed to play while driving. So I don't know why the error message would still come up.

Whoever installed it didn't do it right, doesn't seem like you have constant power(yellow wire) hooked up thats why you keep losing memory, if it is hooked up check the fuse. Every radio in order to turn on needs a ground, constant and accessory power. the parking brake wire seems like it's not hooked up right either, make sure the person tied into the right wire on the parking brake, should only be 1 wire there. On the N2's and N3's you can't just ground the parking brake wire to by-pass the system theres a little silver sticker on the avic unit itself that if you take it off you will see 2 contact points. If you solder those 2 points together you will bypass the parking brake function. Only problem is if you heat up the contacts too much the solder on the other side of the circuit board will melt and the whole thing will be ruined. chances we take right, anyway good luck..................... |

Thanks, I had the installer take another look at it... he ran the wire differently and it seemed to work well. I'm not worried on bypassing the dvd function, since the main reason I need it for is navigation/cd player. After the kid worked on it, the parking brake error message went away, the memory kept, and all was well, for a few days, even through a long trip. Then yesterday, out of no where, the unit was playing radio while I was driving, and shut off. The screen retreated into the dash and stayed completely dead with no power until after a few minutes it randomly turned back on. It did this twice.
The memory presets are not lost when this happens and the second time I noted the battery voltage and it stayed constant. Also, I can't get the power antenna to lower when the car is on, even if I remove the faceplate or change source out of radio. Does this mean no more car washes? |

That means you need a new installer. You have a purple wire that should be wired in with a the blue wire for the remote, so when the amp turns on the attena does too. Also I would check your power wires running to the HU aboutthe shutoff. | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
