Replace Cd changer w/iPod in '03 STS

Remove this ad
Hi all;
I just acquired an '03 STS with Nav and a CD changer and I'd like to replace the console CD changer with an iPod. I've seen several iPod-to-GM cables but it looks like they want you to unplug the end of the cable which connects to the back of the head unit. I'd rather not pull apart my dash as the car is relatively new w/ low miles and no rattles (yet).
So, does anyone know of an adapter cable where I can just unplug the CD changer at the changer end and plug in my iPod there?

I'd apprciate any help.

Thanks;
-Kev

Re: Replace Cd changer w/iPod in '03 STS

That's a bad weblink to a bargain printer supply place.

I've checked on usa-spec CD changers, that's not what I need. I'm looking for an adapter to connect an iPod where aconsole cd-changer normally plugs in.

Re: Replace Cd changer w/iPod in '03 STS

The weblink was close. The actual link is: http://www.usaspec.com/ipodgm.htm
and it look like this is just the ticket for connecting an iPod in place of a CD changer in a newer Seville.

Thanks;
-Kev

Re: Replace Cd changer w/iPod in '03 STS

There are a bunch of manufactures that support this kind of install.
I went with http://www.peripheral-aamp.com/2002/home.asp and it works great. Here are a few others:
http://www.logjamelectronics.com/pacauxpod1.html
http://www.mp3yourcar.com/?
http://www.theistore.com/ipod2car.html
Just make sure you get the right interface cable.

Re: Replace Cd changer w/iPod in '03 STS

Well, no-go. The USA-SPEC PA11-GM didn't work with my '03 STS w/Nav. I kept getting nothing but 'CDX Error' whenever I tried to select the CD Changer (iPod).
So, I've sent it back and am now trying the iPod2Car.
I'll let you know if it works.

Angry Re: Replace Cd changer w/iPod in '03 STS

Update: Well it's a No-go on both the iPod2car and the Peripheral PA11-GM. Seems neither want to behave in '02-'04 Sevilles that have the Cadillac Nav (Denso) OEM head-unit. HU's without Nav are OK, but HU's w/Nav are screwed. Plus they all say it works in their application notes. Watch out! At least Car Domain was a stand-up outfit and gave me refunds.
Guess I'm out of luck for an iPod in my '03 STS w/Nav unless one of you guys has figured something else out.
Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Replace Cd changer w/iPod in '03 STS

Try the nucleus piece. It is by american international. You will have to adapt the wiring though. You can still retain the changer too.

Re: Replace Cd changer w/iPod in '03 STS

No luck so far interfacing the iPod to my '03 STS w/Nav with the Nucleus. They don't have an adapter to plug into the head unit directly and I've asked for a pin-out so I could make my own to plug in instead of the CD changer, but no reply yet.
I think I'm out of luck working with the stock GM (Denso) Nav/DVD head unit unless someone else has any ideas.
Does anyone know if the 6 disc cd changer is different when you have a Nav HU vs. the non-Nav HU in a 2002-2004 STS?
Any help is greatly appreciated,
-Kev

Re: Replace Cd changer w/iPod in '03 STS

I know this thread is a little old, but I also wanted to say that I had problems adding the ipod2Car to my 2003 STS. The iPod could see the power, but the head unit could not see the Ipod.

Peripheral were great and so was Future Shop where I returned it. But for all you folks looking to put an Ipod into your '03 STS with the Premium Bose system you may not have much luck.

That being said... Has anyone got this to work? Did you have to do anything special?

Robert

Re: Replace Cd changer w/iPod in '03 STS

I bought the interface system from Best Buy. I don't remember who it is made by, but it works great. Connects right in the center console.

Re: Replace Cd changer w/iPod in '03 STS

i want to use the usa spec on my 02 deville but i dont know if it will work or not and all the stuff i find is unclear. is the connection only in the glove box, or do i need to pull out the unit and do something there also?

i can find info on up to an 01 deville, but dont know about the 02. if its as simple as plugging it in, in the glovebox and thats it, then i'm cool with that, but i cant seem to find anywhere that it says exactly.

Re: Replace Cd changer w/iPod in '03 STS

is there any information available on removing the 6 disc changer from the center console? i've been unsuccessful trying to search for information on how to properly remove it. it seems as though it should just slide out. is there is something locking it in place? don't wanna break anything trying to pry it out. thanks for any help

edit------found it:
