1997 Catera stereo upgrade - help needed!!
Hey there, I browse these forums quite often but do not post very much, but I need some serious help and this seems like the best place to get it.
My parents bought me my first car about a year ago, it is a 1997 Catera. I have been satisfied for the most part with it, after fixing the radio short-out due to the multifunction-module, and now I am looking to upgrade the stereo system entirely. My Catera is has the base stereo system in it, NOT the Bose stereo. I would like to replace my current stereo with the Bose stereo, but I have no idea what parts are necessary to do this. I am also looking to replace the speakers in the car, as the driver-side rear speaker has a blown subwoofer I believe (it crackles a lot when there is a lot of bass in the song), and I figured I might as well just buy four new speakers.
So my questions are: What do I need to replace the base stereo with the Bose stereo? Would this be enough? (It comes with the Bose/GM radio, Bose sound processor, Bose amplifier, and Wiring harness): http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cadil...item336b0b771b
and what do I need to know about speakers to make sure they will fit/work in my car? I read that the front speakers are 6.5" and the rear speakers are 5.25", is that correct? and what shape do they need to be (round or oval?) and my friend said something about making sure the speakers have the same resistances? not sure what that means. would something like these work for the front speakers?: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/6-5-C...item2c5e6b52fa
As you can see, I need a lot of help. I am not very good with electronics and terminology, my dad can help me with that, but I need to know what I have to buy to upgrade. Any input is greatly appreciated!
