Well.. I was very reluctant to change anything in my '95 ETC.. I heard too many people tell me, "Don't mess with it!".. So what do you think? Is there potential problems when upgrading a stereo system or the like? Have you already done it? What were the results?
I will be upgrading the speakers in my '94 STS in the next few days - if i can catch a break in the weather. The car is equipped with the base Delco am/fm/cassette, with an Alpine add-on changer. The base GM paper cone speakers have seen better days.. Eclipse 8393 6x9's and 5393 5 1/4's will be taking their place.
Hey guys I only had my STs for 3 days and it went back to the dealership today fro some work. However I wasn't able to look uinto the sound system much. What did a 97 come witrh? It says bose on it and has the AC Delco 12D changer in the trunk. Is that th egold package or no? I am also wanting to replace all speakers in the cab with some CDT's. I plan on leaving the factory deck and changer as is until I come up with a viable solution for installing my mp3 player.
somehow i dont think there is a seperate bose "gold"
i believe you either got a bose gold for some years, and some years they just werent called bose gold, just bose. its all just names.
even if you dont have the bose system (just the delco tape player) it is still tricky, you have to run wires from the amp in the trunk (on the factory delco amp module) to the front head unit....and do some splicing. at least thats how in my 92 SLS,which i suspect is the same setup as your 94... the back of the delco tape player is totally unique, not a normal GM gen. II connector, since the head unit is just a receiver and the amp is in the trunk..... lucky for us we dont have to take the door panels off to get those front 5.25's! actually, delco standard factory speakers are usually always better than ford, honda, etc. etc. stock speakers. lol they are still cheesy little speakers with whizzer cones
ALSO in my 92 SLS the rear speakers were 12 ohms(the fact delcos).... now, that just wont really work, i mean, hooking up a 12 ohm speaker to a regular head unit would feed the speaker.. maybe 4 watts.
I would have to say this is an all or nothing deal. If your gonna do it, replace the entire thing. For instance, if you put in a new amp, it will just blow the old speakers, and if you try and hook in a sub it wont get very much power from the current amp. You might as well try and sell the entire system as a whole, with it working. You could ge 200+ out of it on ebay.
