swapping out radio in 2000 SLS

I have a 2000 SLS with factory bose cd and cassette. I want the navigation, dvd player. I was wondering if you can change out the radio in a 2000 SLS from single disc bose unit to the nav, dvd unit. Will it fit directly without changing wiring harness? Will something not work properly if i change the units.

Remember that the OEM Bose head unit is part of the security and serial data bus system. It is programmed with your car's specific VIN, so there are hoops to jump through. You need to talk to one of the audio gurus in here or a GOOD GM install shop.

Yes it is possible, but it is NOT plug and play, will require some (minor) repining in the connector, or alternatively you can make a adapter harness (recommended). Follow the visitor messages on my user page (see my posts on the visitors page) regarding this subject. Also there are plenty posts on this subject.
You will have to clear the VIN from the NAV unit (unless it new never installed in a car). This may cost you ~$50 at a shop owning a TechII tool (few shops outside the usually GM dealers own one). If you have the firmware for the unit you can simply reinstall it on the NAV unit witch will also clear the VIN. To clear the firmware you need to disconnect the internal unit battery for 4 seconds (same idea as clearing the Bios on a computer motherboard). I will NOT recommend you this route UNLESS you have the firmware and you know what you are doing in this field.

I havent found a nav unit yet. I wanted to make sure it was possible for me to change. I would probaly have to take it somewhere for them to do it, as though I dont know how to repin. I never done that before. Do u think its a fairly easy job? Also, i dont have a techII. What nav unit would be compatible with my 2000 SLS? Can I use any one out of the 98-2003 SLS or STS. I dont have the disc changer but I do have Onstar. I just really want that in my car.
