Just got my hands on a nice '95 DeVille with only 110k miles. It has the standard (non-Bose) radio. The front speakers are blown, so I need to replace.
There are two speakers on each door. I assume that one is a tweeter, and the other is a woofer. The bottom one is 5.25" and the top is 3-something and a weird shape.
Is there a crossover somewhere that separates the highs and lows?
Or can I just replace the bottom speaker with a 2 or 3 way? What do I do with the top speaker? Just disconnect?
Thanks in advance!
Hey I have a 96 deville with the stock stereo and from my understanding the 2 years (95 96) are nearly the same. I know for a fact that in the 11 speaker setup there is a crossver that sends the highs to the tweeters, mids to the doors and dash, and the 2 speakers on the rear deck handle the low notes. Since Im new here this may not be completely accurate in your case, especially if you for some reason you have less than 11 speakers. But in most cases you can just plug and play the door speakers given the right size and ohm rating (written on back of speaker should be something like 4ohm). Also make sure the speakers arent too power hungry as its very hard to put an aftermarket amp in these cars. Hope this helps a bit.
