    Aftermarket stereo for 2001 DTS?

So if I replace the stereo in my 2001 DTS, what all would that entail?

I specifically want to add a USB input for an mp3 player (and charge the mp3 player at the same time), a 3.5mm headphone jack aux input, possibly a video screen with video input (and video outputs for additional screens).

I want the steering wheel controls to work too.

Anyone know of a stereo that does this?

And what all would I need in order to hook it up?

Would I need new speakers and amps? Would I need some sort of component to connect it to the onstar?

Can anyone help me out here?

Also, if there is a way to just add USB and a 3.5mm jack to the factory stereo, I started a thread on that but nobody knew a way. It's here:

So I would be game with just doing that if anyone knows a way...

Figure about 2K to replace everything and do it right. This is assuming a very good HU and components...

A new HU, new speakers all the way around, the module that keeps the data intact, as well as a module that keeps chimes and steering wheel controls, amps to run new speakers and new sub...EASILY $2,000, I've done it....

So what size speakers would I need (and how many of each size)? Also what are the modules called that I would need?

Re: Aftermarket stereo for 2001 DTS?

Not sure if the DTS is the same as the STS but I got 2 sets of 6.5" component speakers (Infinity), had to make a mounting plate to fit them correctly. Not sure of the module names since I had them professionally installed with the HU. I would suggest at least a 400w 4-channel for the interior speakers, and that's 400w RMS, not peak. Get yourself a nice pair of 12" subwoofers and about 1000w of RMS power for those and you'll be set. Don't buy cheap stuff or you'll regret. Car audio definitely lives by the phrase, "you get what you pay for." My Alpine CDA-9857 has a direct iPod connection located in the glove box, the HU controls everything. Bluetooth module connects cell phone through the cars stereo system. Sounds like you're wanting more of a double-DIN HU as far as video is concerned. I don't know about OnStar with aftermarket HU's, as far as I know all of that is controlled by the stock HU and is deemed worthless once it is removed.

Thanks for the info. I guess I will start the search for components..
