I hop in a 2010 Escalade with an Ipod touch with movies and videos on it, can anyone tell me how and what I need to be able to play them on the nav screen using the "supposedly super cool" USB port? So far any dealer i have been to is clueless. Just plugging my Ipod Touch into the USB port gives me an "usb error" on the nav screen,, if I use the 3 inch long GM Ipod cable the dealer brought out, it simply plays the music,, but no video???
If the USB operates in any way similar to the CTS and SRX, then the USB is for playing audio only.
The USB port is capabile of playing audio files off a flash drive, or controlling an Ipod.
As you mentioned you needed a specialized cable to play the Ipod. This cable is a combination USB / Audio cable. The NAV doesn't actuallly play the Ipod's music files, but instead controls the ipod, which plays music through the Ipod's line-out (similar to those iPod docking speakers available).
So in other words, is it possible to play the video off the IPod? unfortunately not. If you want to play them on the Nav screen, you'll either have to get an Ipod A/V cable (and plug it into the Escalade's Aux in input), or find a way to transfer them to DVD.
EDIT: The reason the system is designed this way, is not a GM problem, but an Apple problem. As the Ipod uses DRM, the Nav system can not play the content on the Ipod. This is why the system works by controlling the Ipod, and plays the music through the Ipod's line-out.
You could also try placing some video video files on a flash drive, however I'm pretty sure the nav can support only audio files (MP3, WMA, AAC, OGG and Audible files)
