thanks |

If you have a volume knob witch is moving between a Min and Max position (and not spinning 360 degrees, or volume up/down buttons) you are lucky. If so, is the easiest thing in the world (check my thread “Auxiliary input on a ’97 STS any suggestions?”). All you need is a 3.5’’ female jack (with switch function: i.e. should have 5 pins not 3) and some time. |

thanks | James, you ever get a solution to this ? I assume you're talking about the '88 "Symphony Sound" radio ?
I'm halfway towards doing the same thing myself, with an '86. The direction I'm headed is to replace the original '86 radio with a '91 radio that has the 20-pin connector versus the original 12-pin connector. There are aftermarket adapters to convert the connectors for speakers and power or you can do some cutting and splicing with a pigtail salvaged from a junkyard.
With power and speakers hooked up, I have pins 11 - 16 left over which according to the '91 wiring diagram are for an auxiliary input, 11=Left in, 13=Right in, 16= ground.
What I HAVEN'T been able to figure out, though, is once I get an audio input into pins 11 and 13, how do I tell it to switch over to that input ? I would assume that one of the other pins activates a switchover, but which pin, and do I ground that pin or send voltage to it ? |

I've spent several hours of each evening over the past week looking for detailed information on pins 11-16 and turned up zilch. The sad thing is, on some Delco radios the pinout is stamped right on the case:
11 - L Aux
12 - Aud C
13 - R Aux
14 - Aud C
15 - Voice
16 - GRD
But I can't find any documentation that explains what they mean by "Aud C" or "Voice", or how to cause a switchover once I put audio into pins 11 and 13. I'm beginning to believe this is for something that Delco intended to use in the future but never did.
My latest project is a Delco 16150894 salvaged from a '91 Buick Riviera ($10 at the local U-Pull-It yard). The '91 riviera had a remote CD player just above the ashtray that fed into the 16150894 via a 7-pin connector. There's gotta be a way to feed an iPod and/or Bluetooth kit into that 7-pin connector.
On a side note, it seems like the 16150894 might be the newest Delco radio I can put into a late-80s Cadillac and still look correct. The original Cadillac-emblem knobs fit this radio, which also has a black face and green display. Newer radios (93-up?) that I've seen have a grey-ish face and either blue-green or orange display which even though might fit wouldn't look right.

Reason: Correct the p/n.
