HELP Starting Disabled. Tried to Bypass!!

Remove this ad
I have a 96 STS.

I get the STARTING DISABLED WAIT 3 MINUTES message!

I followed the steps described in the archives at: http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums...um/t-8384.html

I got resistors at Radio Shack totalling 523 ohms to match the key.

I cut the 2 small wires and put my resistor pack in. The small wires now go from slots 12 and 13 in a harness bundle through my resistor pack. They wires coming from under the steering wheel are just cut and hanging there.

It did not help!!!!

I wait three minutes and the car still will not start! It wont even turn over!

I have a different IPC that I put in and I can start it with that one! What gives??? I'd use the other IPC except it came from a car with 200K+ and I want my real mileage of 67000 to show.

Any Help?>?????

Re: HELP Starting Disabled. Tried to Bypass!!

Okay. No replies yet but I'm still hopeful.

Today I made resistor packs for 10 of the 15 resistor values available in the keys. (I ran out of male/female connectors.) I tried each set one at a time. Nothing changed.

I still get the Starting Disabled Due to Theft System Wait 3 Minutes.

The car battery is completely dead so I hook up jumper cables and connect them to try. I can then disconnect the cable and the car is dead again. This way I don't have to wait 3 minutes every time.

Anyone think the problem could be my VATS reader or decoder under the dash? If so, any help on getting to it or replacing it?

Also, Why does the other IPC make a difference???

Man! Still no help?!

I'm on my way to try the other resistor packs I have made up but I'd love to see some input from you more experienced guys even if it is just links to more detailed threads!

Thanks in advance!

Re: HELP Starting Disabled. Tried to Bypass!!

I would use an ohm meter and check to see if your resistors add up close enough to 523, some resistors can have somewhat large tolerances and could not be close enough total resistance for the car to start. The VATS system only allows for 5%.
There is also this form to help you out a well.
