Good news and I hope we get some "leaks" before then. There was a lot of old information in the article about the engine. I suspect that GM is sandbagging BMW by not disputing the TTV6 output rumors, and may be planning a surprise as it did for the V2. I'm still hoping (probably in vain) for a V8 as an option. The LS7 is an expensive, hand-built engine, but at least it's still around for the Z/28, and we wouldn't have that stupid DOD feature. Those that want it would be willing to pay for it and get the great sound of a NA V8. Hey, purists should get what they want, too. And please no flakey, fake engine noise in the cabin.
The ATS-V test videos sound like a TTV6. I'll go ahead and get the CTS-V, with a proper engine (supercharged V8). The CTS-V won't need any fake engine noise either, judging by the test videos.
Still, I think the ATS-V will be a great looking and performing car. I'm just afraid it's going to come up short of the M3 right out the gates, unless GM really turned up the wick on that 3.6 TT.

Yeah, the videos did highlight a V6 (ugh) but there could have been other cars on the track. We don't need a "me too" engine. Leaders don't have to be on the same page. The American approach is best.
Went to get the oil changed in my wife's SRX the other day, and while I waited I walked through the showroom and looked at the cars. There was a CTS Vsport stickered at $71k. Could an ATS-V at $55k seem proportional?
With GM's rash of overpricing these Cadillacs... Probably $59k. Fully optioned hopefully stops at $67k.
59 stacks should get you:
Digital configurable gauges (V specific cluster)
eLSD
8-speed auto (no charge manual)
Dual mode exhaust (wide open with V setting)
Microfiber/leather interior
6 piston front/four piston rear Brembos
CUE with navigation
That's debatable as of yet, we need to wait till next year. The Audi S4 isn't in the same performance league and the RS4 still isn't coming stateside. The AMG C63 is a Coupe only, the sedan isn't been for sale yet.
So the M3 and the ISF are the main competition.
And we don't have final pricing yet. Either way, when it comes to 400-500hp, RWD, and a small/midsize sedan, there actually aren't that many options until you leave the luxury segment.
Even if you do leave the luxury market what are some options of a 400-500hp small to mid size sedan with RWD in the $65K and lower? Not to call anyone out, just literally sitting here having a tough time coming up with some.
Why limit yourself to domestic brand? How about CLA45 AMG? I know it only has 355 hp but the price is right and it comes with AWD. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZ7g8AtmYm4
Thanks. I forgot about the new SS. That's why asked the question. I knew there were one or two I was missing, but couldn't think of them. From what I remember is about 415 or 420 hp and a good weight distribution (can't really remember, but close to 50/50).
I'd speculate not so much a big power increase over the Vsport (though 'sportier' exhaust and intake might bump it up a few points) but some weight cutting via carbon fiber, better/bigger Brembo package, 7M option, and an aggressive aero package. I also think there will be only one version with a handful of options (like the CTS-V2) with an MSRP smack between the base and premium Vsport at $65k. With those options and at that price point, it will make for some tough decision making but the emotional power of light weight, a manual behind the LF3, big ass red Brembo calipers at all corners, and the stunning looks will get people to buy these.
SS: Adds manual and MR shocks for 15! But it's a different animal.. It's larger, heavier .. More of a great performance family hauler with a gigantic back seat .. Great poise and ultimate grip.. But I have a feeling the ATSV will feel a bit more nimble
I cross shopped the SS and the Vsport and driven back to back the Alpha platform feels decidedly more athletic so no question the V will be and 'feel' much lighter. But, the SS is a fantastic car and if you want a V8 sport sedan its a very compelling package.

I'm debating between CTS Vsport vs. ATS-V. (CTS-V will be too much of money for me to drive daily. I drive 20k miles a year, and don't want put that many miles on 80k car)
We don't know how much ATS-V will be, and all the important spec., but assuming that they will have same engine (with little more power in ATS-V) and ATS-V around 60K, CTS Vsport seems like a very good value.
When ATS-V comes out, there will be no discount whatsoever for long time, but CTS Vsport already has big discount now. (You can get base Vsport for 52-53k new)
I want to take my car to track sometimes too.
If I want track car, ATS-V would be better. If I want family sedan, CTS Vsport would be better. But I want both in one car.

I'm glad to see someone else cross shopping these two cars. I hope the tune/boost in the ATS-V is dialed up to at least 525HP/500TQ now. My guess is with some moderate (or less) modifications CTS Vsports will be similar or greater(!) performance wise to ATS-Vs. But to answer your question... I prefer the ATS-V. And I would track it.
The CTSV sport is a better family car for sure ! It's not much bigger but the difference is noticeable, esp for kids... The ATS V will be sharper and the CTS v sport is a bit more luxury tuned

I would lean toward CTS VSport for myself at that price point ... As much as I love my ATS ITs a bit right for my family situation .. And the CTS Vsport is REALLLY AMAZING to drive ... I don't know idle I'd need more performance than the VSport
