    Ats-v awd?

Does anyone know if the ATS-V or vsport, whatever comes out, is rumored to have awd available?? I was disappointed to hear the CTS-vsport is only rwd. Living in buffalo area, I feel I require awd. I currently have an ats 3.6 awd and I love the performance and snow capability with snow tires but I want more power/performance. I'll be very disappointed if the ats-v is not offered in awd.....I would probably have to abandon Cadillac if I can't get something awd and north of 400hp. Thanks.

    Re: Ats-v awd?

The only AWD Cadillac from V or V-sport family is XTS V-sport. I would say the main reason is that the XTS is a FWD car, and putting so much power on the front wheels wouldn't be possible, and wouldn't result in good performance, therefore to compensate the problems of FWD platform they used AWD system.

Other than that special case, it seems that the high performance branch of Cadillac has focused on RWD platforms. But this is just my personal opinion, who knows, maybe Cadillac comes up with an AWD CTS-V or ATS-V, who knows!

I believe that, there is exactly 0% chance of an AWD ATS Vsport or ATS-V. Or any AWD high performance Cadillac for that matter.

    Re: Ats-v awd?

Currently, GM doesn't have an AWD driveline (or access to one) that fits the high performance segment - but GM isn't alone as many luxury markes have shied away from AWD in the top power cars. It isn't just a function of "we dont have it", there's a good reason not to have it at all - even Audi (who make a massive number of AWD cars) spend a fortune rebuilding transaxles on their powerful cars. They add complexity, weight, and cost to the vehicle while only providing tangible benefits in bad weather (which most -V cars are garage queens) or at lower speeds when traction is severely limited. You can get around one of those by slapping on super sticky tires. GM could develop an AWD system to handle the power, but it'd be a few years out if they ever did it. In order for that to happen, GM would need to justify the development costs by having a decent sales volume of AWD high end cars in Europe and Asia along with North America.

Is AWD good? Sure, it has its advantages. Being in Buffalo as well I see your point (but I'd argue you don't "need" it) and I've owned plenty of good AWD cars in the past - but with a set of dedicated snow tires on winter wheels I only had one time where I was stuck this past winter after I got plowed in and there was enough snow built up under the car that I was beached and needed to shovel and rock it free. Winter 2012/2013 when I first had the car, I had no issues whatsoever.

No AWD in Cadillac V cars - no Cadillac for me.

I might suggest an RS7. I hear they're affordable these days.

ewwww, don't spend $60K on a small fail-tech CLA please. For the children?

at least wait to see if Audi brings an RS3 to us. even if they don't; I'd have an S3 over the crazy-priced CLA45.

edit; I keep forgetting your Canadian , dang Canada!

    I have.

    The question that needs to be asked is;

Is it better than an Evo, or an STi, and if not, why is it then $30K more?

    Re: Ats-v awd?

I guess pricing in Canada is different.
WRX STI sports tech package is $46,760.
CLA45 AMG 4matic starts at $49,800 and Sports Addition 1 tops at $65,900.
I would provably take the basic CLA45 AMG with another $10K of options to make it similarly equiped to STI.
So we are talking about $15K more for the AMG.
Problem is that there is a long wait for delivery (6 month).

Because there is a MB badge on it! It is as simple as that! Some pay extra for a badge, and MB is aware of it and it does price like that because it can! Customer's don't choose MB because it is the best value for the money.

IMO that could be the ugliest car to wear an AMG badge. Ugly. So much more out there before I'd go CLA route. Go right back to an S4, although I haven't had the best luck with them mechanically, I still loved them.

It doesn't deserve an MB badge....hard to believe the same manufacture who made an AMG Black series put this in their line up.

Thanks for the great info everyone. Man, I must say, that's very disappointing! I get the whole financial aspect vs demand for a 60k awd luxury performance sedan, but I'm still surprised one isn't offered. I've driven several rwd cars with blizzaks through winters here, including a few with a 97 z28 that I still have, with no problems but I just love the capability of awd with snows. Both my and my wife's parents live south of buffalo in ski country hills and they get a ton of snow and wind so I'm always driving in a lot of bad weather. Oh well, here's to hoping the ats-v is offered in awd.
