Do you have inside knowledge; otherwise, spare us. You guys get to buy an ATS Vsport; otherwise, leave the rest of us alone. Don't let the door hit you on the ass as you exit.

I am thankful Cadillac is following BMW and mb in putting out over designed over priced over complicated machines. Makes me feel better about keeping my stone aged ohv v8 that is loads of fun and will be reasonable to fix (assuming it somehow manages to break).

Re: Cadillac ATS-V is probably getting a twin turbo 3.6 liter V6

The vague term would be "no scheduled power bumps". The ATS-V isnt out yet - so it won't get a bump technically, no matter what level it is at. Next, there may not be any "scheduled" bumps, but if one is needed, GM will bump it to keep up. The next is "2016" - does that mean calendar year or model year? Vague.

Power will be what it needs to be - GM powertrain hasn't exactly gotten a reputation of "weak" engines in performance cars over the past twenty years. Maybe not the best engine sounds or exhaust notes, but power has never been lacking.

    Now it's a (rumored) 3.2 twin turbo V6 at ~500 HP.

End of article says they should just put an LS7 in there. I don't keep up on a lot of this stuff, but wasn't it JimmyH that mentioned that the LS7 was having some problems staying together?

    As far as a 500+ hp 3.2 TTV6 going up against a 430 hp M3/M4 goes, I love it.

There are alot of complaints at Corvetteforums about LS7 problems. Bear in mind, most of them are modded.

In any case, it was too expensive for the CTS-V, to say nothing of the ATS-V. Look at the disproportionate cost of the Z/28.

I thought the main reason for not using the LS7 in the V2 was that it did not produce enough torque for a 4200# car and the performance targets. If the ATS-V comes in under 4000#, it might be a good choice for the first year. Recall that the LS6 was used for 2 years in the V1 and then replaced by the cheaper-to-produce LS3. GM, at least make the LS7 an extra cost option and follow up with the tweaked n/a LT1 for later years.

The LS7 fails miserably at reliability, cost, and NVH. Once it gets to temperature and you park it the thing makes a racket. It clicks, clacks, and thunks when cold, it ticks itself cool when you get out... It doesn't SEEM refined at all, and never has had a place in a Cadillac production car.

...but it was never meant to be a "production car" engine. It's nearly a race car engine and that's why it behaves like it does. It's amazing and has a raw power to it that I love - but it's not for a Cadillac market.

And if you were going to say the LS7 didn't produce torque for a 4200# car... The Camaro SS is a 3900# pig. No, with gearing it would have been fine - but it didn't have what GM wants for the Cadillac brand.

Again, I've said it before, the LS7 is a LAME DUCK. It is an obsolete engine with outdated technology (lacking latest development tech and DI). It won't appear in an ATS or CTS in any form or as any option. It'll live on as a crate engine for a while, hand built from castings laying about, but that's it.

The latest twin turbo LFX 3.6L V6 build netted over 800 crank HP and torque!!! Crazy power out of these, and that's at 18# of boost. Can't wait to see what it does on the track.
