    2013 ECM vs 2014 ECM...Any difference?

What's up everyone. I was wondering if there is any difference between the ECM's for two reasons:
    1. I'm being sold a '13 ECM so that I can tune it and put it in my '14 so I can put the stock one back in at lease end.

    2. Also, I noticed some tuners sell the '14 tune for considerably more than the '13. What's the reason for the price hike?

    Thanks,
    Laz

Is the car mileage kept in the ECU? If it is, how do you get it transferred when you put the 2013 one in and take it out? I imagine they keep anyone with that capability on a pretty short leash.

Mileage is recorded and saved to the cluster's internal memory.

That's what I assumed UNTIL Mike reported when he swapped clusters in his ATS, the mileage went blank. Until I understand why it would not keep showing either the mileage of the donor car or the target car I won't be sure. I suppose the blank mileage could just be part of some anti-fraud measure although since GM would not be a victim of mileage fraud they wouldn't typically spend money to protect a 3rd party (used car buyer or lease holder).

That's the immobilizer system I would presume.

Not sure exactly what you mean by that, but he drove the car that way with no problem since swapping clusters was how he confirmed the change that retained sport mode between uses was in the cluster. I'm not saying the mileage isn't recorded in the cluster, just that the usual empirical evidence of that was clouded by Mike's experience.

I wasn't aware it was driveable.

That simultaneously interesting and depressing, I love being able to just swap ECU's on the fly in the B5 to test tunes and such.

Maybe you can but just some info like the odometer will be missing. Wait, B5? If you are talking about your Audi do you think there is any similarity in how they work?

No, I've just never heard of odometer information being stored in the ECU.

FYI I don't think you will be able to just swap Pcm's anyways because GM's require a relearn enabled by a scan tool, GDS2 software with Mdi, ect, when you switch.

Mileage is stored in the BCM. If the vin programmed to the cluster and BCM match, the mileage stored in the BCM will display on the cluster.

I'm not familiar with a PCM change for 14. It might carry a new part number, but it's the same type of PCM used for 13. As long as both PCMs are for the same engine/trans type, I would imagine it will work fine as long as it is programmed properly.

Well now I'm not sure I want to risk it....I think I'll pass on the ECM till I'm sure. Anyone have an explanation for the price difference on the tune for the different model years? I don't wanna pay $100+ more for the same tune....it seems shady to me

incorrect Mileage is stored in the bcm and bussed to the cluster.
