Anyone remove the CD/DVD player from the glove box?

I have no need for the CD player in my glove box. I want to reclaim the space. I put a small flashlight in my glove box and could not shut the door because the CD player was in the way. Has anyone removed the CD player? If so, did it give CUE fits? It would be nice if I could just remove and disconnect it and CUE would just not show it.

I've been thinking of doing the same thing. Lindsay Cadillac is selling a plug and play CD kit. When I asked about removing mine they said it just has one plug and a few screws to remove. Bert

I'd love to ditch my CD player, I don't have anywhere to carry my gun...

I looked at mine and it looks more complicated than that. There is a shelf on the left side that seems to be part of the CD installation and looks like it would have to come out. Anyone have a service manual with schematic of the CD in the glove box? I would ask my dealer to do it but I bet they would want more than I want to spend to do it. I really don't know why Cadillac put a CD in the ATS anyway. What a waste (of glove box space).

Although I'm right there with you guys (all my music is stored on my phone or a 32 gig sd card in the console), but I find it slightly humorous that we're all trying to get rid of a feature that was considered an "upgrade"

I can tell you that it does not slide out after removing the 2 screws (1 each side) But as Maxplot stated it looks like its part of the shelf. Do we know if there is a shelf in the glovebox of the non CD equiped ATS?

I did it and put it back. Once I pulled out the tray (required to reach in cabin filters) it was easy to disconnect. The problem is the CUE screen was blank after disconnecting so I put it back in.

Well that's no good. You would think CUE would just skip it if it can't find it.

I just did not mess around with it and try different things to see if I could get it to work. I just put it back and all was right with the world again. My guess is they have some kind of loopback plug on the ones without the CD.

The CD Player is optional on all models except premium. There has to be an easy way to plug it in and out. Guess you will have to speak to the dealership.

Re: Anyone remove the CD/DVD player from the glove box?

My guess is if you plug it in for the first time CUE picks it up just like adding a peripheral to a PC and if you remove it is looking for it a boot up and its not there so it throws it off like removing a key board from a PC. Anyway I'm done messing with it.

After you uninstall it, you can always sell it on ebay . . It retails for $275.
