"Personalization by Driver" option in Standard trim

I have a 2013 ATS Standard 2.0T with the base, non-CUE infotainment system. In the settings, under Vehicle > Comfort and Convenience there is a "Personalization by Driver" option that you can turn on or off. What does this setting do exactly?

I looked in the owner's manual (i.e. a PDF of the Second Printing) and pages 5-45 and 5-46 cover that set of settings, but nothing is said about the "Personalization by Driver" option.

I'm wondering the use of this well.

Doesn't this either turn on or turn off the memory seat, mirror and exit seat positions?

That would make sense, but since my Standard trim model doesn't have any of those features, I'm left wondering what the option controls and how it works.

In that case I won't be surprised if it actually did anything! It seems parts of the owners manual (the first edition at least) were pulled from other models/years--the CTS in particular--and sometimes they don't seem to apply 100% to the ATS.

We're checking into this for you all! Hopefully we'll have more insight once we hear back from our internal source on this.

Re: "Personalization by Driver" option in Standard trim

Our internal technical resources reviewed the thread and have sent me the following information:
"As mentioned in the forum with the base system that your vehicle is built with this probably does not apply. You may notice the statement at the beginning of the personalization section in the owners manual:"Use the audio system controls to access the personalization menus for customizing vehicle features. The following are all possible personalization features. Depending on the vehicle, some may not be available".

I hope this helps in some way,
    Sarah

Re: "Personalization by Driver" option in Standard trim

Hi Sarah. I appreciate the information, but unfortunately, it doesn't really explain anything. The internal technical resource mentions that it "probably does not apply". But then why would it be in there? That just doesn't make sense.

The Standard trim with the base, non-CUE has a number of Radio settings (e.g. Number of Favorites Shown, Auto Volume, etc.) and Vehicle settings (e.g. Auto Fan Max Speed, Chime Volume, Exit Lighting, etc.). Does the "Personalization by Driver" setting control any of these, such that each vehicle fob can have its own set of associated settings?

I don't mean to be a pain about this, but the manual doesn't explain, my dealer is clueless, and it doesn't seem as if anyone knows. That's one of the biggest problems with the systems in these vehicles... no one known how they are supposed to work.

Re: "Personalization by Driver" option in Standard trim

barlowc -- I have the base 2.5, no CUE. "Personalization by Driver" does absolutely nothing. Doesn't matter if it's on or off. Any settings you make with one fob will be recognized by the other fob. And, if you change a setting with the other fob, that setting will be recognized by the first fob. Only one set of settings can be made - recognized by both fobs - nothing independent unless there are memory settings for the seats (which the base doesn't have).

Dave623, thanks for the information! That'll save me some time messing with it this weekend and finding out the same thing. It's stuff like this that shakes my confidence in the system. Not only am I having definite problems with things as I've posted other threads on, but then there are options that do absolutely nothing. That would explain why the manual writers didn't have much to say about it. Hopefully this gets reported to the systems engineers and it gets addressed in a system update.

Re: "Personalization by Driver" option in Standard trim

barlowc -- my confidence isn't shaken, it's gone. Without going into specifics, my car has had electrical gremlins since day-one and my dealer is clueless. I was put in contact with a Caddy District Specialist who did nothing -- kept giving me the line that if there are no warnings lights, they can't do anything. They might be able to chase the problems if you can reproduce it for the service department. Took six months, managed to do that and then they tell me "it's not hurting the car". It's a great vehicle if you get one that works properly. But mine does stupid stuff. I'm going elsewhere when my lease is up.

Re: "Personalization by Driver" option in Standard trim

Dave623, my story is nearly the same as what you describe. And in this thread - http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums...installed.html - there's an owner who experienced it all too. In the end, GM bought back his car from him.

Unlike you, I bought my car, so I have to learn to live with the issues or work with GM/Cadillac to get them resolved. Fortunately the Cadillac Customer Care team on the forum consists of some great folks that are willing to help. I just hope the information makes its way to the systems engineers and they can find the bugs I've reported and address them in a system update.

Like you said, it is a great vehicle, but as another owner said, it's hard to love all the great things about it when you're stuck with problems that no one knows how to fix.

Re: "Personalization by Driver" option in Standard trim

barlowc -- I agree the Customer Care team tries to help, but it doesn't do any good when the service manager and district specialist tell you they can't do anything unless the issue(s) can be reproduced and when you're finally able to show them at least one problem and have it verified, they change their tune and tell you "it's not hurting anything" or "we've been over the car with a fine-tooth comb and can't find anything". I may be barking up the wrong tree, but I get the impression they don't want to take the time to troubleshoot because finding ground issues (which I'm convinced is my problem) can take a great deal of time and effort and the techs don't get paid that much to diagnose. Lemon Law is out of the question. In my state, you have to go to two other dealers and give each of them three chances. The nearest dealers other than the one I deal with now are 50 and 100 miles away respectively and I can't take that kind of time off from work. And there's no guarantee the mediation goes in your favor. I was hoping for a good first Caddy experience. Looks like it'll be my last.

Re: "Personalization by Driver" option in Standard trim

Dave623, I don't at all think you're barking up the wrong tree. I feel the same about everything, and my experience has been the same. I took the car to the dealer when one of the problems was occurring. They couldn't look at it right then and make me an appointment. Then, after having my car for two weeks, said they couldn't reproduce the problem and that I should bring it back in when it's happening. I felt like they were just giving me the middle finger.

Fortunately, where I live, I have a handful of dealers that I can work with. This morning I went to one of them, went through my laundry list of issues and told them about the lack-of service I received from the dealer where I purchased the car. So we'll see if they can do anything. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but trying not to set myself up for more disappointment.

When the car is behaving, I love driving it, and know why I picked it over a 328i. But when it's acting up, I feel some buyer's remorse.
