    20 inch wheels?

I had just ordered some new wheels for my ATS that I had my heart set on, which were 18 inch that I was planning on just swapping out on the same tires that came with the car since they are the right size. Unfortunately I was just emailed that the manufacturer doesn't have any more 18 inch wheels that I wanted right now, but they do carry the same wheels in the 20 inch size and offered to get me those with a discounted tire package.

While a part of me wouldn't mind a nice set of 20 inch wheels on my ATS, I was worried that if I did go with the 20 inch wheels, that there could be fitment/rubbing issues. The manufacturer states that the wheels are drilled individually to order, which makes me feel a little better if they specifically guarantee fitment to the individual's car model before finalizing an order. I have read that Cadillac was planning on offering 19 inch wheels on the ATS at some point, that being said, would that mean an additional inch to go up to 20 would fit well on the ATS? Anyone with more expertise on that matter that could offer some words of advise would be very much appreciated. At this point I am either going to stick it out and see if it's possible to wait for more 18 inch wheels to become available, or just upgrade to 20 inch. I feel like Ive already saturated myself with wheel choices and have found the one that really calls to me, so I really would prefer to not have to choose a different wheel style.

If offset, width, and bolt pattern are correct, the ID Of the rim is irrelevant. The OD if the new tire needs to be within ~1/4" of that of the OE tire to avoid rubbing problems, and odometer/speedometer inaccuracies.

But do you want to sacrifice that much sidewall height?

What would be the consequence of giving up sidewall height? I was assured that they guarantee the bolt pattern/offset, so that should ensure that I don't suffer any rubbing issues right? Also, I had previously heard a while back, something regarding speedometer/odometer inaccuracies when upgrading wheels to a larger size, what's that about?

    There's a nice wheel/tire comparator at http://www.rimsntires.com/specs

As long as you maintain overall outside diameter, your speedometer will be ok. Disadvantages with 20" wheels though outweigh (pardon the pun) the pros - which basically is for looks only. They're heavier (unless you pony up $$$ for ultra lightweigth designs, usually custom) which hurts acceleration and handling, shorter sidewall which leads to harsher ride and more likely to damage if you hit a pothole etc., and more expensive to replace tires.

I've had 20" on my previous Lexus vehicles ride sucks rims dent get dinged. And tires blow up more often.

    IMO don't do it

Cadillac already offers 19" option. Many people have these on the streets already. I have 19 in aftermarket with no issues. My opinion is 20's are visually too big for this car. My opinion only. A small sidewall generally means rougher ride and higher chance of blowing out sidewall and/ or bending rim on pothole, railroad tracks, etc. Ive had both happen on past cars.

    Re: 20 inch wheels?

hood101010, THANK YOU! Very valuable info, and your car looks really good.

    Ok, I can get 19x10 (5x115) in a 45 offset. Fronts I can get in 19x8.5 in 40 offset.

I'm thinking at least the rears will stick out too far, I need more offset.
