    Trembling at idle

My 2.0T has a tendency to tremble at idle. I've switched to premium gas with no results. Also it doesn't alway happen, very irregular. Any ideas?

Have had that problem with my recent BMWs as well. On my cars it's been because the idle is very low...around 500-600 rpm, I think programmed that way to conserve fuel. Not something I've really worried much about. Have you checked the tach to see if engine speed is low?

My 3.6 does this sometimes too... and you're right it idles around 500 rpm.

    Re: Trembling at idle

I've experienced it a few times myself. Actually thought it would stall once. I'm assuming it's the AC kicking in while the idle is just below normal causing it to struggle for a second...

I too have had a similar issue at idle occasionally with my 2.0T; nothing scary, but definitely noticeable

Mine does it when I come to a stop light with the AC on. It almost wants to die, then idles up again. But have only experienced it with the AC on.

I also have this issue, I call it stumbling which it does for a few seconds. Not sure it's AC related as its cold here.

Same here, this happens at times, but not at all times. Sometimes just starting the car in the garage.

Not sure it can be ignored - I used to replace motor mounts way too often on past models.

cam lobe at low RPM on the old cars it would set there inch the car up and down, You guys are forgetting that you have less cylinders which makes the harmonics different than a V-8. It will stumble as you add stress to the motor at lower RPM. AC kicks in or surge of electrical power extracting juice from the alternator. When you are running 3000 RPM it is smooth. Just a different set up than you are used to. If it was all electric, it would be hard not hearing the engine rumble..

I know where you're coming from but what I'm seeing is more than that, it's not normal, the whole car shakes and on the edge of stalling and very intermittent and appears to only happen when the car is cold vs after having driving it awhile.

I am sure that it is not AC related. but it does happen with a cold engine. It could be any other component on the drive chain that kicks in and pushes the momentary resistance upwards. It feels that the engine is about to stall and it shakes in its bay.

Higher idle rpm would overcome the issue, I guess.

I noticed this "trembling" as well this morning. 3.6 here and idles around 500 when warm. It isn't exactly violent, but it is DEF noticeable. Mine idles at 700 when cold, and doesn't really tremble at all.
